Medieval carpentry - building without nails. French Timber Framing & Scribing

Описание к видео Medieval carpentry - building without nails. French Timber Framing & Scribing

This is an instructional documentary about the traditional french timber framing. Carpentry class held in Estonia and organised by Vanaajamaja (vanaajamaja.ee/en) - focusing on the thousands of years old scribing technique using plumb bob. The main key before scribing irregular (hewn or twisted) timbers is to mark the vertical and horizontal centers by level on the both end of the log and snap the lines - as all the scribing is done using the center lines (axis) instead of the square rule when the sides of the timbers are being used as reference. This technique can be used also on planed or sawn timbers. All the frame was build in 5 days by the experienced carpenters and non experienced students using only hand tools. Hands not machines!
