Meniscus Anatomy and Function

Описание к видео Meniscus Anatomy and Function

👨‍⚕️We’ve teamed up with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Nima Mehran (@drnimamehran) to bring you this beast of a meniscus series and article with tons of cool video clips and pictures from actual knee arthroscopies.
.
🎥The first video shows what a complex meniscus tear that was mechanically blocking the knee looks like. As you keep watching, you will see the other normal and healthy meniscus to appreciate the differences between the two. The 1st picture is a normal medial meniscus. The 2nd picture is a bucket handle tear of the medial meniscus.
.
🔍The meniscus is a shock absorber that helps optimize force transmission across the knee and protects the cartilage at the end of our femur and tibia. The medial meniscus is also a secondary stabilizer to the ACL as it can prevent anterior translation (forward shifting) of the tibia.
.
‼️Some common clinical findings for meniscus tears include:
➡️Pain at the joint line of the medial or lateral side.
➡️Swelling, can be intermittent.
➡️Mechanical symptoms such as locking or catching/clicking with pain.
.
🧐The meniscus is a C-shaped tissue between your femur (thigh bone) and your tibia (shin bone). Each knee has a medial (inner side) meniscus and a lateral (outer side) meniscus. The meniscus is composed of water, collagen, proteins and other cellular elements.
