Toyota’s 2018 Camry looks very new, but doesn’t promise much in the way of improvement. If you're in the market for a family sedan this summer, you may have to decide between the proven Honda Accord, the current Camry, and the 2018 Camry.

The standard engine for the Camry is a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder that makes 178 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. The XSE or XLE can also use an available 3.5-liter V6 that makes 268 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. Power gets sent to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic with manual tap-shift mode, and in the SE and XSE, you can row through the gears via steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
Our XSE model with options was $29,958, and we found it extremely comfortable and well-equipped. Even in base form the 2017 Toyota Camry comes with plenty of standard features, outstanding safety scores, and Toyota’s reputation for reliability; measured on its value, the Camry’s hard to beat.

Toyota's 2017 Camry is a far cry from a cookie-cutter family sedan.

The 2017 model year marks the last one for the current generation of the Toyota Camry. It arrived in the summer of 2011 for the 2012 model year and was updated for 2014. And right after the New Year, at the 2017 North American International Auto Show, an all-new 2018 Camry was unveiled. So why are we reviewing a car that's about to be put out to pasture?

For all its new looks, the 2018 Camry doesn’t promise a whole lot in the way of improvements (yet). And the current Camry has evolved through the years into a very competent sedan—one that gives the upscale Honda Accord a run for its money. If you're in the market for a family sedan this summer and looking at the long-lauded Accord and Camry, it really is a three-way decision between the Accord, the current Camry, and the soon-to-arrive 2018 Camry.

But is it worth for you to wait for the ’18 or act now? Read on, as we’ll help guide you through the decision process.
