JOHN HUME AWARDED NOBEL PEACE PRIZE 10 DECEMBER 1998

On 10 December 1998, the 50th Anniversary the Universal declaration of Human Rights, John Hume was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, together with David Trimble.

In his acceptance speech he said: “I want to see an Ireland of partnership where we wage war on want and poverty, where we reach out to the marginalised and dispossessed, where we build together a future that can be as great as our dream…'
