During my Career Pathways conversation with @Yemisi Obe — a corporate executive turned food innovator — she reflected on how her educational foundation shaped her journey in unexpected ways.

1. Your Foundation Shapes You — But It Doesn’t Define Your Limit

Yemisi shared that while Accounting gave her structure, business acumen, and financial discipline, working in a tech-enabled manufacturing space revealed the need for more technical grounding.

“As a business owner in a manufacturing and tech space, I think engineering or food technology would have helped me more. But I’m learning, researching, and filling in the gaps now.”

Takeaway: Your course of study can shape your path, but it doesn’t lock your future.

2. Adaptability Is Power in Today’s World of Work

Instead of lamenting what she didn’t study, Yemisi chose continuous learning, going back to school, reading, consulting experts, and learning hands-on.

“There’s still room for accountants. But in my kind of business, an engineering background from the onset would have helped me more.”
