The Schwenkelberg Railway, also known as the Schipkapass Railway, was a standard-gauge line that opened in 1877 and ran between Niederglatt and Wettingen. After 1882, following the takeover of the national railway by the Nordostbahn, the track between Wettingen and Otelfingen began to be dismantled. Before the outbreak of the Second World War, the remaining service was also discontinued due to a lack of passengers. Due to the steep gradient over the Schwenkelberg, the line was also no longer of interest for freight transport, although it was shorter than the former competing lines through the Furttal valley. This makes the Bülach-Baden railway one of the very few railway lines in Switzerland that remained closed.
Today, this particular rarity is exciting for adventurers, history buffs and railway fans. The former railway line in the municipality of Buchs ZH still largely exists today, although a dense forest has now grown up in the east between Schwenkelberg and the edge of the village, which has been designated a protected area. In the village centre, on the other hand, the route is still open. The old Buchs railway station and the former railway keeper's cottage on the road from Adlikon to Dielsdorf are still standing.
