picture a log cabin with a warm fire, a family gathered around a
table, a sense of community and of shared celebration. We imagine
children hanging stockings, mothers baking pies, fathers reading
from the family Bible. But there was another Christmas, a wilder,
lonelier, and far more dangerous one. This was the Christmas of the
mountain men, the solitary trappers and explorers who lived their
lives in the vast, unforgiving wilderness of the Rocky Mountains.
