The L-39NB light attack jet made by Czech Aero Vodochody has passed the fuselage strength test. The test was conducted using prototype aircraft number 7002 which was prepared as a static test aircraft.
Aero Vodochody said that the fuselage strength test process is based on the maximum load that the aircraft will experience in flight.
Load tests were carried out until reaching the ultimate load of the strength limit. The aircraft successfully achieved a body strength of up to 110% of the maximum load.
"The purpose of this test is to verify the airframe strength complies with the requirements," the company said as quoted by Airspace Review.
It added that during the test the fuselage was loaded with bending loads, inertial force loads from the engines, and loads from the horizonal tail compression force.
Then the final test was a combination of bending loads from the horizontal and vertical tails.
The test was stopped after showing symptoms of structural failure so as not to destroy the aircraft.
Aero Vodochody prepared four aircraft for the L-39NG testing.
In addition to the prototype aircraft for static strength tests number 7002, prototype number 7001 (0475) was used for flight tests, ground vibration tests and weapons tests.
Prototype number 7003 was prepared for material fatigue tests. While number 7004 is for flight tests.
Unlike numbers 7001 to 7003 which were built as prototype aircraft, aircraft number 7004 was built as a pre-mass production series aircraft.
The L-39NG is an update of the L-39. It is powered by one Williams International FJ44-4M engine, new avionics and five gun hangers. The aircraft is also equipped with simulation technology.
