On Saturday, January 9th, 2021 just before 1pm, NMSP dispatch received reports of a man laying on the westbound side of I-10 near the Akela exit. Officer Jarrott was sent to check on the man and to see if he needed any help. Upon arriving the man stated he was trying to get to Phoenix, Arizona. Officer Jarrott offered to give the man a ride to Deming. After checking the man’s license to make sure he did have any wants or warrants, officer Jarrott helped load up all of the man’s belongings and drove him to the McDonald’s in Deming. The man asked if Jarrott could buy him some food and officer Jarrott said he could do that for him. After giving the elderly man a ride and buying him food, officer Jarrott decided to also give the man $20 out of his own pocket before leaving. It is unknown if the man made it to Phoenix or not. It doesn’t appear that officer Jarrott was recognized for his generosity by anyone else other than the elderly man. Officer Jarrott went out of his way to help the man before going about his day. He did so without expecting anything in return or even a thank you. Officer Jarrott was what an officer should be. Sadly just 26 days later and a little over 3/4 of a mile up the road from where he picked the elderly man up, officer Jarrott gave the same kindness and respect to the man who decided to ambush and shoot and kill him during a traffic stop. A genuinely good officer was lost.

For those who don't know, this is another video in the series of videos from Fallen NMSP officer Darian Jarrott. I am showing all bodycam from him in the time he was an officer to show who officer Jarrott was. Officer Jarrott was gunned down along I-10 on February 4, 2021 east of Deming, NM. I made a full documentary on the events of that day and show how Jarrott was essentially sent into an ambush by a federal agency (Department of Homeland Security to be exact) without providing critical information on a convicted felon who was trafficking drugs while armed with multiple guns (including rifles) and was desperate not to go back to prison. Had Jarrott had that information it would have allowed officer Jarrott to save his own life.
