The Guild & Commons at Sonoma Academy

High School is evolving. It's not enough for students to just learn about the issues they'll face in the world... They also need the space to create solutions to them.

Schools can be the best incubators for unbridled inventiveness. Practice doesn't make perfect: exploration makes explorers. At Sonoma Academy, we believe in getting our students ready to think outside the notebook. We create a culture of design-minded thinking to inspire them to believe in the power of their solutions.

The Guild & Commons buildings will add key academic, social and cultural spaces that will support the overall mission of the school.

The new buildings include a dining hall, a commerical kitchen, a teaching kitchen, maker's studio classrooms--including electronics and robotics, wood and metal fabrication, and digital media--a performing arts theater with 450 seats, two music classrooms, student services, and meeting spaces.

The buildings will be LEED Platinum certified, net-zero energy efficient, with a living roof, waste water recycling, and other key sustainability features. Additionally, the school's garden spaces will be expanded.
