Common collector configuration is called Emitter follower. The emitter follower is a current amplifier that has no voltage gain.
It's most important characteristics is that it has high input impedance and low output impedance, hence it is an ideal impedance matching..
The emitter resistor Re itself acts as a load and the AC output voltage is taken accross Re. The resistor R1&R2 provide for proper biasing. The input output capacitor blocks DC signal, and allow only AC signal.
During conduction, the voltage drop across base-emitter Vbe is very low, hence Vin=Vout the output is follows the input so called this is emitter follower..
