Accepted Art School Portfolio! (SVA, Art Center, Pratt, SAIC, MICA)

Описание к видео Accepted Art School Portfolio! (SVA, Art Center, Pratt, SAIC, MICA)

Thanks for watching my video! I meant to publish this in August but uh… it’s November. It took a while because I edited most of it on my phone with CapCut and my decision to lip synch was time-consuming! Anyway, below is a list of schools I applied to and some simple notes about what I was offered by each.

Pratt Institute: Animation (early action)—Accepted with $64,000 4 year scholarship
Chose not to go because I got accepted into better schools.

MICA: Animation (early action)—Accepted with $70,000 4 year scholarship
Chose not to go because I got accepted into better schools.

SVA: 2D Animation (+ honors program)—Accepted with $70,000 4-year scholarship
This honors program required two simple supplemental essays to apply to it.
After getting accepted into the honors program initially, you have to do a timed essay (2 hours) in an observed room regarding a specific prompt. If you’ve taken any AP Language/Literature courses, this will be a breeze.

SAIC: no major-specific programs/applications—Accepted, $70,000 scholarship
I didn’t realize this until I toured the school in March, but SAIC doesn’t really separate their classes based on major. It’s kind of a free for all. I wasn’t a fan of this idea, because I don’t really want to take cord classes with people who are just experimenting with a medium. Chicago seemed like a midwestern version of NYC, which I liked, but I decided to not go to SAIC because of its lack of structure.

Art Center: Entertainment Design: Animation Track—Accepted
I put this portfolio together in 2 days because I didn’t check the requirements for the specific major and track I was applying to. Luckily, I was given a few days extension after the deadline because I forgot some things in my application, but I still had to make 8 rendered pieces in 5 days. If there is any wisdom that I can pass down from my experience, it would be to double and triple check the requirements for your application!
It also required two full essay supplements and a mini supplement, which were actually pretty fun to write, since they were based on what artists the applicant is interested in.

Ringling: Computer Animation—Rejected by program, Accepted by school
Ringling’s application was surprisingly simple and easy. They didn’t require any special pieces or supplemental essays. Just your portfolio and generic essay. It was lovely to apply. Wish it was this easy for the rest of em. I was rejected from the competitive Computer Animation program, but they told me they could accept me into any of the other majors if I applied, no extra fee. I applied to their Game Design program and was offered a scholarship of $64,000 total.

CalArts: Character Animation—Rejected
CalArts is famous now for having the most well-known and selective animation program. Only about 5% of applicants are accepted, so it was no shock that I wasn’t let in. This application made me really nervous, since a large part of it was the infamous “CalArts sketchbook”. I made a video just showing the flip- through on my channel.

Sheridan: Animation—Rejected
For those of you who don’t know, Sheridan requires your portfolio to be made specifically to their requirements. That is, they give you a list of assignments to test your skills instead of looking at your past work. I’ll make a separate video just featuring this stuff, but essentially, they are very nit picky over there and I didn’t even come close to the score needed to be accepted. I think I could’ve gotten in if I didn’t wait until the night it was due, at 2 in the morning, to finish my pieces, but lesson learned.

If you made it this far, comment your favorite snack food :p
