Can Marijuana Cause Psychosis or Schizophrenia?

This question inflames a lot of people.

But with cannabis legalization sweeping the land, open-minded people should seriously consider the possibility that long-term cannabis use might harm at least a few people with vulnerable nervous systems.

Symptoms of psychosis represent one of the well-known short-term effects of cannabis. This was talked about openly amongst cannabis users over the course of many decades. Saying the pot causes some people to experience psychosis is not a controversial statement.

It’s also not controversial to point out that regular marijuana users are significantly more likely to have a diagnosis of schizophrenia than people who don’t use marijuana. This has been demonstrated many, many times.

This lecture makes the case that a causal relationship (the protracted cannabis use being the cause of increased schizophrenia risk) is likely.

This lecture is part of Northeast Ohio University's education(+)consultation service, SZconsult. A PowerPoint file for this lecture is available at http://szconsult.org/
