Warsa Foundation, Pune, presents this online lecture organised on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti (19 February 2026) and International Mother Language Day (21 February 2026), as part of a 3-day online lecture series held from 20 to 22 February 2026.
The lecture, titled “From Stone to Screen: The Role of Technology in Conserving Ancient Scripts,” explores the transformative role of modern digital technologies in the documentation and preservation of ancient inscriptions and scripts. It focuses on how tools such as 3D scanning, photogrammetry, digital imaging, and online archives are being used to record fragile inscriptional evidence that is increasingly threatened by weathering, urbanisation, and neglect.
The session is delivered by Mr. P. L. Udaya Kumar, Honorary Director of the Bengaluru Inscriptions – 3D Digital Conservation Project at The Mythic Society, Bengaluru. A Bengaluru-based heritage conservationist, Mr. Kumar is trained as a mechanical engineer and holds a Master’s degree from IIT Madras. After a long career in the technology sector, he transitioned into heritage conservation and now leads large-scale initiatives to digitally document and preserve endangered stone inscriptions across India.
Through his work, Mr. Udaya Kumar effectively bridges epigraphy, technology, and public engagement, making India’s rich inscriptional heritage more accessible to scholars, students, and the general public. His lecture highlights how digital conservation not only safeguards textual records but also enhances research possibilities and public awareness.
