Maurizio Rolli is a graduate in double bass and jazz music studies. He is currently teaching electric bass and double bass at Conservatorio “L.D’Annunzio” in Pescara, Italy. He was a pioneer in teaching Electric bass in an Italian Conservatory and many of his students won important national competitions.

He has recorded with: Peter Erskine, Mike Stern, Paolo Fresu, Danny Gottlieb, Otmaro Ruiz, Michael Manring, Hiram Bullock, Alex Acuña, Bob Mintzer, Scott Kinsey, Bill Evans, Matt Bissonnette, Mala Waldron, Alfredo Impullitti, Pierre Favre, Fabrizio Bosso, Massimo Manzi, Javier Girotto, Roberto Ottaviano, Tino Tracanna, Paolo Damiani, Gianluigi Trovesi, Jacek Pelc, Maciej Sikala, Bartosz Hadala and many more

He played with: Jim Hall, David Liebman, Mike Stern, Peter Erskine, Bob Mintzer, Andy Timmons, Greg Howe,Scott Colley, Diane Shuur, Enrico Pieranunzi,Stephane Guillaume, Claude Barthelemy Bruno Tommaso, Pino Minafra, Adam Makovicz, Russel Gloyd, Michael Riessler Bill Russo, Cameron Brown, Frank Marocco Rosario Giuliani, Ettore Fioravanti Marco Tamburini, Pietro Condorelli Mauro Negri Gianpaolo Casati Marco Fumo Giorgio Gaslini etc...

He was bass player with Omar Hakim and Rachel Z "Trio of Oz", with R.A.R.E. (a latin jazz quartet featuring Alex Acuña on percussions, Otmaro Ruiz on piano and Gianluca Esposito on saxes) for a two years run and with "Hiram Bullock's X-perience" (trio featuring Hiram Bullock and Israel Varela) for three years .

Since September 2000 he's director of "Rolli's tones" Big Band, which recorded with Michael Manring and Mike Stern the cd "Moodswings, a tribute to the music of Jaco Pastorius", released in October 2001, the year of the 50th anniversary of Jaco's birth. This cd was reviewed as Cd of the month on "Bass Player" Magazine and on "Jazzit" Magazine.

The 2nd Maurizio Rolli's cd, "Rolli's tones" (featuring Mike Stern, Hiram Bullock, Peter Erskine, Bob Sheppard,Bob Franceschini and many more), released in 2009 opened him the door to other collaborations, not only as a Bass player but as arranger as well, with Metropole Orkest,Vince Mendoza, Chaka Khan, Jeff Lindbergh's Chicago jazz orchestra and Istituzione Sinfonica abruzzese.

His composition "Dialoghi" is featured in "Bassics" Magazine cd with M.Manring, Jaco Pastorius, Peter Erskine, Jimmy Haslip, Alain Caron ecc... He has performed in several international festivals touring in U.S.A., Mexico, and Europe.
He has been member as well as composer and arranger for the 'Is Ensemble', formed by ISMEZ (Istituto per lo Sviluppo Musicale del Mezzogiorno Italian Institute for the development of Southern Italy), through a selection of more than 140 Italian musicians. The ensemble was awarded 8th best band in jazz magazine Top Jazz 1997 referendum.

He has won, in his early years, several music competitions such as: Barga jazz '97 (1° place awarded to his trio with Diana Torto and Filiberto Palermini); Biennale del Mediterraneo ('Iceberg' - Bologna '98 -1° prize, with Alfredo Impullittis 'Kaos Ensemble'); the Roccella Ionica 'New Talents' '98 competition - in which he was first selected as member of the orchestra conducted by C. Barthelemy (conductor of the Vienna Art Orchestra and the France Jazz Orchestra) and then mentioned as orchestra best soloist (along with Achille Succi and Walter Civettini); 'Baronissi Jazz 2000' (Max Ionata quartet). He was awarded 2nd place in 'Massimo Urbani' 2000 competition.
