Route 53 Weighted Routing Demo Part-24|Zero To Hero in AWS Certified Solutions Architect- Associate|

Hey guys.
This is the Part 24 of AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate course. In this section we are going to learn about Route 53 using Weighted Routing Policy and with a Demo at the end.

Below are the steps need for the demo:

Demo on Route 53: Weighted Routing Policy

1) Create a domain in Freenom.com (To avoid additional charges, as this is free for 12 months)
2) Create a Hosted Zone in Route 53 and then Goto Freenom.com website.
3) Select Manage Domain from Freenom.com and then click on nameservers.
4) In Route 53, Create a Hosted zone for your domain created in Freenom.com and then copy the NS (Name Servers) on to freenom.com to map it to Route 53 Name servers.
5) Create two EC2 instances and copy the Public IPV4 address. As this will be used to map it to A name records. Here the first EC2 would be used for Old version of the software and the second can be used for the Newer version of the software.
6) Create first A Name record set in your Hosted Zone and key in the IPV4 address of your EC2 in the Value section and Select Weighted Routing policy. Also give Weightage to it as 99 with set id as Old Version
7) Create second A name record set in your Hosted Zone and key in the second EC2's IPV4 address in the value section. Select Weighted Routing Policy and set the Weightage to 1 with set id as New Version

This way we can slowly reduce the weightage of old version and increase that of newer one to ensure all the users are able to see the newer version at the end. This is one of the very important feature of release management.

Voila !!! we have successfully completed the Demo. Please dont forget to delete the A name records, followed by Hosted Zone and EC2 Instance to avoid additional charges. As Hosted zone is chargeable after 12 hours.
