Sunday June 20th 2021 marks the first day of summer & International day of yoga! It is also the longest day of the year and the sun will be at its highest peak. We are in our most energetic phase, and so is nature! flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, and you may even notice you are more active/social. Today's practice is going to be very relaxing and cooling, a great way to balance and rebalance our energy this season. (we hold each posture for 4 to 5 min) #summersolstice #summeryinyoga #solsticeritual

In TCM, summer is associated with the heart (yin) and the small intestine (yang) meridian lines. These are responsible for processing nutrients in our bodies as well as pumping and circulating blood through our entire bodies. In todays, practice we will be targeting both of these meridian lines to help balance and/or rebalance energy.

I normally consume something appropriate for the season in these types of videos. In TCM, you want to consume "cooling" fresh foods, this includes water. If you'd like to join me, I am drinking water infused with lemon, strawberries and basil! so delish! otherwise, share in the comments what your "go to" water infusion is.

What is Yin Yoga? Yin yoga is MAGIC. Well, that is how I would describe it. Yin yoga is a practice that that allows you to go beyond the superficial layers of the body and access the deeper layers. This means in a Yin Yoga practice you are going beyond the muscles and right into the deep connective tissues of the body. Our connective tissues are made up of fascia, ligaments and tendons which surround and form our joints. Therefore, when you practice Yin Yoga you are able to increase your range of motion, your flexibility and strengthen your joints. A win win! If you ask me. Yin yoga is more than stretching, we are “stressing” the connective tissues and we do this with longer holds and intuitive breathing.

When practicing always remember

1. Meet the pose at YOUR edge (gradually)
2. Find stillness and focus on your breath
3. Resolve to be still
