"In 1970, PAMS was at something of a crossroads. Radio was changing and the longer, elaborately-orchestrated jingles PAMS had perfected were on the way out. Stations now wanted shorter jingles, "shotgun" jingles and a capellas. PAMS business model was structured on selling packages with a number of jingles, so there were many adjustments that had to be made. Also, PAMS responded to the changes in radio with 1970's Series 40, "The Changes."
"The Changes" featured shorter jingles built around drum or short instrumental intros and finishing with an a capella of a station's call letters.
Also at a crossroads was Nashville, Tennessee's WKDA. WKDA was a limited power station- 250 watts, that somehow went up against several bigger stations and did phenomenally well, particularly when the station went to a Top 40/Rock N Roll format beginning in the 50's. The station did well throughout the 60s but then station management decided to make a change in 1970:
February 23, 1970- Shock waves are sent flying through the Nashville radio community when it was announced that WKDA-AM, which had dominated Top 40 radio in Nashville for many years, was switching its format to country music. In making the announcement, WKDA General Manager Al Greenfield stressed the need for a 24-hour station to play the “very modern Nashville sound.” Up until this time, WSM was not committed to a full-time country format; and WENO radio, the only other country station in town, signed off every night at midnight. It was also announced that WKDA-FM would be formatting the station with the recently-introduced underground rock music. These major changes were set to take effect by late March.  [Timeline courtesy of Hudson Alexander and Aroundtheblock.us]

The site REELRADIO.com features this comment about WKDA's switch to Country music:  From: Rob Calhoun Sunday, April 4, 2004 at 20:12:59Despite being "The Music City", country radio hasn't been around long. WSM had the Opry. But beyond that it was network programming and later an MOR format with country overnights. WSM didn't migrate to a full country format until the early eighties. WSM-FM had many formats until it found country in the mid eighties.

So this may help to explain why it is virtually impossible to find much of anything on WKDA outside of the 60's. Even the logo for WKDA in the 70s was from a photo of a radio survey laying on a table top, and that was it! I was only able to find a hazy photograph of a few of the WKDA DJs from the 70s as it related to an publicity appearance at a community event.
So, all that said, enjoy these PAMS Series 40 Jingles for WKDA."
