"Forever Young" by Bob Dylan - Easy Beginner Guitar Lesson | Chords & Lyrics + Strumming

Hey everybody! In today's lesson, I'm going to show you how to play "Forever Young" by Bob Dylan. This is from the album Planet Waves which is one of my favorite albums of all time. There's actually two versions of this song on that album and this will work for both of them, but I primarily used "Slow Version" in the making of this tutorial.

Please note, if you want to play along with the original recording, you'll need to put a capo on the 2nd fret, but for the sake of the lesson we're just going to do it on a normal guitar, no capo. The chord shapes are really easy this way and it avoids any barre chords.

The lesson begins with chord shapes. We work on all the important switching, like switching from C to F, C to G and so on. And then we strum through the verse. The only thing we have to note here is that one of the chord shapes, we're only going to strum two times, otherwise we strum each one four times per measure.

Once we've practiced switching through all the shapes, we learn the strumming pattern, which is a bit longer. But, if we break it down into two parts, it's actually two easy strumming patterns put together! So we'll think about it that way.. we'll count it out, we'll work on it rhythmically, and we'll match it up with the chord shapes.

Finally, we learn the chorus, which is easier than the rest of the song so if you've made it this far, you'll have no problem finishing up the tune. There's a couple new chord shapes here. We put them together with the strumming. And then we play through the whole thing.
