Environmental Engineering (Water Supply Engineering) full length classroom video lecture for ESE / GATE / PSU 2020 aspirants of Civil Engineering in Hindi as well as English medium.

In this lecture we have covered the chemical water quality parameters such as Hardness, Chloride content, Fluoride content, Nitrogen content, Metals and Dissolved Gases.

Various chemical properties of water are:
1. Total Dissolved Solid (TDS)
2. Alkalinity
3. pH
4. Hardness
5. Chloride content
6. Nitrogen content
7. Fluoride content
8. Metals
9. Dissolved Gases

Hardness in water is caused mainly due to multivalent cations of Calcium and Magnesium. Hard water causes more soap consumption. It is measured using titration with EDTA in presence of EBT indicator. It is expressed in terms of equivalent of CaCO3.

Presence of Chloride in water indicates the industrial waste.

Nitrogen is present in the forms of -
a. Free Ammoina
b. Organic Ammoina
c. Nitrite
d. Nitrate

Fluoride content helps in the permanent growth of teeth and prevents the dental cavity. If present in excess causes dental fluorisis.

Some metals are toxic in nature such as - As, Ag, Pb, Cy, Hg, Cd etc

Some typical examples of dissolved gases are H2S, Methane, Carbon Dioxide, Oxygen etc.
