Bandishes on Morning Ragas | Hindusthani Classical | Subhra Guha | Deshkar Bhairav Ramkali

Hindustani Classical Vocal music is historically a heritage rich institution that has followed a strict discipline and structured path for centuries. This album “Bandishes On Morning Ragas” is a beautiful experimental album that explores this age old tradition.

This album deals with primarily some of the Morning Ragas that are traditionally supposed to be sung in the morning time. The Ragas primarily used here to show the various Bandishes are Raag Deshkar,Raag Bhairav,Raag Ramkali,Raag Ahirbhairav,Raag Bhatiyar and Raag Bilawal. One of the first Raaga used in this album is Raag Deshkar. Raag Deshkar belongs to Bilawal Thaat but other Ragas falling in this thaat do not have the same kind of movements and the application of Gandhar. The next Raag used here is Raag Bhairav. Raga Bhairav belongs to Bhairav Thaat. It is an early morning Raga, using all seven notes in the ascent and in the descent. Rishabh and Dhaivat are komal (flat) and the other notes are shuddha (full). The derivative ragas out of this structure are grouped under the broad head of Bhairav Thaat. Next Both the Ragas Raag Ramkali and Raag Ahirbhairav are both offshoots of the Bhairav Thaat. The other Raaga used to define some of the Bandishes is the Raag Bhatiyar that belongs to the Marwa Thaat. One of the most interesting amongst all of these Morning Raagas are the Raag Bilawal. Raga Bilawal is derived from Bilawal Thaat. It is a morning Raga, and uses all the seven notes in the ascending and descending order. All notes are shuddha (full). The derivative ragas out of this structure are grouped under the broad head of Bilawal Thaat.

Some of the very famous Bandishes such as Alabela Sanjan Aayo Re and Una Bina Kachhu Na are part of this unique compilation.
