Hi! In this video, I give a summary of the novel and read out one of my favourite opening scenes with a running commentary explaining why I think George Eliot is such a master in character building! I love the nine-year-old protagonist Maggie because of this exquisite passage.
I'd recommend this novel if you'd like to try out George Eliot but are a bit intimidated by 'Middlemarch'. This could be a good place to start.
