Classic History Jacksonville Show # 7 of 22

After seeing incredible success with show #16 entitled “Our Forgotten Downtown”, I decided I wanted to narrate an extensive, sprawling 30 minute “clip show” of photos and film I had taken and also had from my history collection and others. I had a lot of ambition with this one. From this, I wanted to build a new show that would broadcast in tandem with History Jacksonville on TheJaxLeft (TheJaxLife) broadcast schedule. I was looking for something even bigger. I initially thought I would do it as a Kid’s Show-thus some of the theatrics at the beginning as I talked about “The Laura St Trio at Laura & Forsyth. From this I developed even more clip shows, specials, and a short trivia show called “Yesteryear” brief in show length and broadcast run-because – though I did not know it at the time- I was about to create the JAX year by year series focusing on Jacksonville’s History from 1975-1995 (the 1st 20 years of my life in the city). By the time I had gotten to this point, I had a ton of photos gathered from all over and I wasn’t shy about talking about and displaying what all I saw ranging from the early 20th century to that time. When one films “on the street” or focuses on 1 event, personality, or landmark- the production of that show has to make compromises and limits. In this show-it was whatever I wanted it to be. I was sharing my digital “time machine” playground for everyone to enjoy. To this day, I can punch up lots of late 19th century, 20th and 21st century photos of the city. I hold great pride with what I was able to accomplish. Interestingly, the last skyline photo in the show of the Independent Life (Wells Fargo Center today) will be one of the big photos in the JAX 75 show . The only drawback was at this time I had not developed good sound editing skills-concerned that the theme song would be faint and tinny in a million years- I blasted it. When the show 1st broadcast, the viewership results were very disappointing. It was not until 2017, when it became popular. The JAX series began with JAX 75 in September of 2017.
In this show, I talked about the city I lived and grew up in and the city I never knew firsthand. I had reached a point of no return-despite any gaffes or snafus, I was ready to develop history programming at a scale I could have never imagined . I was fortunate to have time and mobility and so I made it happen.
Currently, it is the 6th most popular of the 178 shows on the channel.

This show profiled many historic landmarks throughout Jacksonville history-some still in use, while others are abandoned or were demolished.
