Show notes:

The second of two special shows (the previous one had been exactly one week earlier in Jyväskylä), and a unique concert that is unlikely to be repeated in many years. Well over two hours, most of the time being dedicated to rarities: Pakanajuhla was played for the last time in China in 2016, and the previous time had been in Helsinki (Virgin Oil) in 2014; Tulkaapa Äijät, hell knows when the last time was, but it was never a common one; 1065 Aika, Mimisbrunn and Haaska were common for a short period of time, then put aside again… and Tulimyrsky, due to its length, has been extremely rare ever after its promotional period.

I noticed that Marko didn’t do the usual blast beat in the beginning of Köyliönjärven Jäällä. Asked about it, he also mentioned that they usually cut out some parts from songs, generally not very noticeably, to make it easier to do shorter, festival-slot-friendly sets. This time, however, they decided to play the songs as close as possible to the album versions.

Perhaps the only way to make this concert even better would have been to replace tracks 4, 5 and 6 with Tuleen Ajettu Maa? I’m not going to complain anyway. One of the top 3 Moonsorrow concerts for me, if not top 1, of the 16 I’ve seen.

Recording notes:

My video recording device ran out of storage in the middle of Mimisbrunn, so the second half of that song and Sankaritarina are missing. Fortunately, that was a small fraction of the concert, and it isn’t even completely lost: I was making an audio-only recording separately that turned out perfectly fine.

I was standing in front of Ville the whole time, close to his monitors, which has the consequence that I heard Ville’s bass a lot louder than the guitars — and the same happened to both recordings. They are a bit buried, but still audible most of the time. Drums, vocals and keyboards are fine given the circumstances.

Recorded with an iPhone 11 (the video) and an iPhone 8 (the audio-only part at the end). I use a flip case that allows me to grab the phone more comfortably, but not to see the screen, so that neither I nor the people behind me will be distracted by it. Also out of respect for the others I don't lift my phone above my head. This is why the video is obstructed and shaky.
