1980s, known as the Excellence Eighties, saw a dominance of free market economics and our story is getting started with this ERA. But with the hike of economy, The suicide rate has climbed from 1985.
Suicide means ending your own life. It is sometimes a way for people to escape from pain or suffering. When someone ends their own life, we say that they "died by suicide." A "suicide attempt" means that someone tried to end their life, but did not die. Let’s see the world wide suicide incident by year.
In 1985, 11.71K people commited suiside and from then figure got increased for next 10 years. It was at peak in 1995 with the figure of 15.3K. In these 10 years world lost many precious lives. After 1995 graph had starded to decline and at the end of 2015 it reached to 11.47K suicide. It seems small number as compare to 1995 but still we are losing people’s lives.
If we divide the total suicides throughout the years by gender, we find that males committed 77 percent of the suicides and females committed the remaining 23 percent.
After that, we divide the suicides into age groups, such as 5-14 years, which account for 0.7 percent of all suicides, 15-24 years, which had 11.2 percent of all suicides, 25-34 years, which account for 16 percent of all suicides, 35-54 years, which account for 20%, 55-74 years, which account for 22.5 percent, and 75+ years, which account for nearly 30 percent of all suicides from 1985 to 2016.
********** By continent *************
Now lets talk about suicide rates in different continents.
Europe has the greatest rate of suicide i.e. 18.09K per 100K then any other continent. Asia comes in second with 14.38K fatalities per 100,000 people.
The suicide rate in North America and Oceania is nearly same. Africa and South America both have low suicide rates.
If gender is a factor, then males commit more suicides than females at the greatest rate on every continent. According to research, there are 29.54K male suicides in Europe for every 100K males, followed by Asia with 20.56K Male suicide rates per 100K. Lowest male suicide rate is in South America and Africa. Female suicide rates in Europe and Asia were nearly equal (7.53 and 8.32 per 100K, respectively). There are 4.29K, 5.69K, and 2.4K in North America, Oceania, and South America, respectively per 100K.
Let’s see the age group analysis.
75 years of age and older have committed suicide at a higher rate over the entire world. 35-54 and then 55-74 come next. The lowest levels of fatility are found in the age groups of 5 to 24 and 25 to 34 in all continent.
***************By country***********
Let's examine the suicide rates in different nations based on the data we have. Lithuania, Sri Lanka, and Belarus have the highest rates of suicide in the globe, while Oman, the Maldives, and Jamaica have the lowest.
When we examine the suicide rate by age group across countries, the 75+ age group has the highest suicide rate. As we go younger in age group, trend of suicide rate is getting dowm.
Regarding the male gender, Oman and San Marino have 100% male suicide rate and the greatest female suicide rate when compared to men in Kuwait, which is typically equal but never greater than males.
