Case design

“The Luminor 1950 case represents another stage in the evolution of Panerai cases. The innovation is the crown-protecting device with lever which ensures water-resistance, protecting it from shocks and unintentional manipulation even under extreme conditions. Another principal characteristic of the Luminor 1950 was the cushion-shaped case and its wide, flat bezel. Today the crown-protecting device has clearly become the unmistakable, distinctive symbol of Officine Panerai.

AISI steel case construction

“AISI 316L 1.4435 stainless steel is Officine Panerai’s material par excellence since it is highly resistant to corrosion and is hypoallergenic, making it ideal for contact with the skin. The Panerai watches created for the Italian Navy were made of austenitic stainless steel, a reliable material that was also resistant to the extreme environmental conditions in which the commandos operated.”
