Navigating to an Uncharted Volcano in the South Pacific

Описание к видео Navigating to an Uncharted Volcano in the South Pacific

An uncharted volcano (Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha'apai) emerged from the sea in the past 5 years. On this trip we partner with SEA Semester, NASA, and the Kingdom of Tonga to sail to the new island and then explore Earth's newest landmass. This video talks about how we went about navigating the uncharted waters and anchoring our vessel at the new island, including how we helped chart the waters to help the Kingdom of Tonga's future research efforts.

SEA is an awesome program for college undergraduates or high school students looking to join the leading study abroad organization focused on the ocean. Programs can be oceanography focused, or can also explore the cultural and historical significance of the maritime parts of the world. Highly recommended!

NASA is interested in this volcano because it may serve as an analogue for Mars' deep geologic past. Check out more YouTube videos about this volcano and NASA's mission there.
