Crossed Paths with fellow YouTubers
We ran across a fellow content creator - Shoestring Martha. About a month after our trip, a random video popped up in my feed. The location and Silver 4Runner looked really familiar and low and behold, there we are in Martha's video! Check it out here:

Chasing Northern Lights in Arizona?
We kicked off our journey with high hopes of catching a glimpse of the northern lights from our amazing front porch view. Yes, we know it’s a long shot in Arizona, but when adventure calls, you answer! The anticipation of possibly witnessing this natural phenomenon added an extra layer of excitement to our trek. Did we see the northern lights? You’ll have to watch to find out!
Exploring Schnebly Hill in Reverse
Starting at the top of Schnebly Hill isn’t the usual way to do it, but hey, we like to do things a little differently. While most people drive up the hill to be rewarded with the stunning views, we decided to begin our descent with those views already in our rearview mirror. As we navigated through the rocky terrain, we quickly realized that this trail offers no shortage of thrills and spills. From steep drop-offs to narrow passages, this trail tested our driving skills and our vehicle’s capabilities.
Finding the Perfect Campsite
One of the highlights of our journey was stumbling upon what we’re calling the “motherlode” of campsites. It’s secluded, it’s rugged, and it’s got that perfect view of Sedona’s red rocks that just takes your breath away. We even dared to say that it’s better than “Edge of the World” – though you’ll have to decide for yourself. The closer proximity to the red rocks and the sense of isolation made this spot one for the books. We couldn’t wait to set up camp and soak in the serenity of our surroundings.
Conquering Obstacles and Taking in the Views
The trail down Schnebly Hill is not for the faint-hearted. With some serious obstacles along the way, including challenging rock formations and tight turns, we had to stay sharp and focused. There were moments where we questioned whether we should turn back, but the views kept us going. Seeing Sedona from this angle, with the red rocks rising majestically against the blue sky, made every bump in the road worth it.
Camping with a View (and Weather Challenges!)
Our campsite for the night was nothing short of spectacular. Perched high above Sedona, we had a panoramic view of the entire area. However, nature decided to keep us on our toes with a sudden change in weather. As the storm clouds rolled in, we debated our next move – should we stick it out or find shelter elsewhere? Spoiler alert: We decided to embrace the storm and camped out in one of the most incredible locations we’ve ever found.
Wrapping Up the Adventure
After conquering Schnebly Hill, we found ourselves back in Sedona, where we took a moment to reflect on our adventure. The journey was filled with unexpected twists and turns, both literal and figurative. From the technical challenges of the trail to the ever-changing weather, this trip was everything we love about off-roading and overlanding – unpredictable, exciting, and always rewarding.
