No armory, no doctrines. Two speedruns in one video.
The difference between any% and 100% in this mission is a single side objective, to use a hijacker to hijack a riot van in the northeastern enemy base and bring it back.
Mission Ojbectives:
1. Hospital must survive
2. Rescue the scientists from the southwestern base.
3. Rescue the engineers from the northwestern base.
Secondary Objectives:
1. Use the hijacker to hijack the riot van at the northeastern base, and bring the civilians back.
The idea for the run is relatively straightforward, but the optimized build and intel farming for this run can be very tricky to pull off. Make use of the comms officer, sentinel and marking mines for intel.
Any% requires 70 intel - 2x stealth (20), 1x beacon (30)
100% requires 180 intel - 4x stealth (20), 1x hijack (40), 2x beacon (30)
Build order:
This build has been carefully designed to not require more than 100 power at any point (so that no additional power plant is needed). This is done by selling structures just as they are no longer needed (as prerequisites). You need to complete two harvester cycles before selling the refinery. Use the comms officer to speed up the harvester if necessary, because this can be a little tight.
Given at start: conyard, power plant, barracks - power: 20/100
1. refinery (20+40 = 60/100)
2. vehicle bay (20+40+40 = 100/100)
3. air control tower, sell refinery, sell barracks (40+50 = 90/100)
4. air control tower, sell vehicle bay (50+50 = 100/100)
In any%, queue 1 skycrane on each air control tower, and sell the first air control tower immediately. This is because the money will immediately be needed for the tempest airstrike.
In 100%, queue 2 skycranes on the first air control tower, and 1 on the second.
Crates picked up: 5
2 crates picked up by a scrambler going to the back of the base
1 crate picked up by the three field scouts next to where I drop the marking mines (below base)
1 crate picked up by a drone operator from the ramp to the west of your base (don't send a unit there, it gets killed by a porcupine)
1 crate picked up by a harvester going south immediately after selling the refinery (it barely survives the porcupine guarding it)
For any%, the money is extremely tight (if done right, you end with exactly 0 tempest remaining). This means that if any of your buildings get shot even once, you will not have enough money to complete the run as their sell price drops. The backup strat in this case is to sell your power plant, putting you into low power mode.
For 100%, there is a slight bit of leeway (100 credits remaining) since no tempest airstrike is used. Instead of picking up the extra crate at the end for enough money to drop the final beacon, an alternative (and marginally faster) strat is to sell your air control towers at the end. I don't sell my air control towers immediately because they provide comms, which speeds up the first skycrane's return trip.
Comms providers: Beacon drops, Comms officer, Air control tower.
I send the comms officer into the tempest fields to the west to speed up the first skycrane's return trip. Watch out for the porcupine in the base though.
Any% - things to take note of
Because the first skycrane is entering diagonally, the line officer will execute the nearest scientist before you can pick it up. Thus it is important to drop the beacon in range of the line officer so that the line officer shoots at the beacon first.
The tempest airstrike does not only hit the anti-air defenses, it also kills the porcupine which would otherwise kill the comms officer.
The mission cannot complete until all of the dialogue is over. This means that it isn't crucial for the second skycrane to be as fast as possible. However, if you get a hospital under attack dialogue during this final stretch, the mission completion is delayed. This is why I shoot the hospital near the start of the mission, so that the hospital under attack dialogue triggers early.
100% - things to take note of
I use cutscene invulnerability to sneak a skycrane to the back of the base while the scientists are being dropped of at the hospital. This skycrane is used for the return trip.
There is no need to pick up the van (it is in fact slower). Let the riot van sacrifice itself and get the civilians into the skycrane directly.
You have to wait before dropping off the engineers at the hospital, so that the mission doesn't end before dropping off the secondary objective. You can drop the engineers a little before the secondary objective is dropped off though, as there is a little window while col. Fisher is talking to complete the secondary objective. Do not drop off the engineer too early though, as the secondary objective will be marked as failed at some point during col. Fisher's dialogue. Follow the timing where I drop off the engineer very carefully (this is around the earliest you can drop him off).
