Yesterday, I had a coaching call with an individual about mlm prospecting and marketing. In our conversation, it was apparent that she was engaging in a big NO, NO in the network marketing industry. She was verbally vomiting on her prospects. Today's post and video touches on overcoming the verbal vomit in mlm prospecting.

While mlm prospecting, if you've verbally vomited on your prospect you can go back and say:

"I know you have zero interest in the business, but I think you might like the product"

or

"Hey (insert name), I just wanted to apologize. I came to you when I was really new at this thing and totally blew it inviting you. I apologize, I was new and know I’ve got better with training. I just wanted to apologize. Things are going well with the business, and I just apologize for my initial approach."

Say Less To More People

Have you ever heard the saying, "Say Less to More People" in Network Marketing? My mentor Ray Higdon says this often and it's one of my favorite quotes about controlling the amount that you say to your prospects during the inviting and presenting stages.

What this means is just what it says…don’t talk so much when you’re inviting and mlm prospecting, but actually talk to more people. One of the biggest problems network marketers face is saying too much to very few people.

Break In Communication in MLM Prospecting

If you learn how to utilize a break in communication, it will help you avoid the verbal vomit and conversations that last too long. You do not want or need to stay on the phone for too long at a time when you are inviting or presenting to network marketing prospects. You want to always be in busy and in a hurry.

Talking too much is bad for your effectiveness. When you spend too much time on the phone with one person, they will notice the amount of time you are spending with them and will think “I do not have time to stay on the people for 45 minutes every day!”

A break in communication allows you to simply take care of the business you need to take care of. You’re setting the appointment or are helping them get in front of a presentation. You can always “catch up” and “chat” at another time. It also lets people see you are a busy person who values their time. People who have all day and have the time to “flounder around” are not taken as seriously in the business world. Being busy with your business is a good thing!

Learn To Ask Questions

When mlm prospecting you want to learn to ask good questions that will lead to discussion. You’ll want to ask open-ended discovery type questions in a normal conversational way. As you learn this skill, your prospects will think of you as a great conversationalist because you are asking questions about them!

People love to talk about themselves and when you learn how to ask questions that allow people to tell you more (and learn how to keep quiet while they’re talking) you will find that people absolutely love you and will resonate with you. This is huge when building rapport and trust with people!

Use Your Network Marketing Company's Tools

Another great way to make sure that you’re not verbally vomiting over your prospects while mlm prospecting is to use your company's tools. If it's a video, conference call number, DVD, webinar, meeting... whatever tool that exists in your company, BE SURE TO USE IT.

Using the tools while mlm prospecting not only prevents you from talking too much, it also allows you to utilize a system that is much more duplicatable. As your prospects are going through the process they are constantly asking themselves “Is this something I can see myself doing?”

When you use a system and utilize your tools, your prospects are much more likely to see themselves being able to do the same thing. …and that’s good for your network marketing business!
