The Cliff Walk - Newport Mansions & Ocean Views - Newport, RI | Beautiful New England Coastline Hike

With a half-day off in the afternoon on Good Friday, I was itching to get out and do some filming and shoot some photos. I had a solid feeling that the trails up north were going to be garbage after the recent rains, and with it being a little late in the day to make the drive up, I opted for a relatively local “hike”.

While I spent 20+ years of my life growing up in Rhode Island, as far as I can remember I’ve never actually walked the entirety of the Cliff Walk in Newport. I had been as far as around where it was paved but that was about it. This was actually a really nice “hike” and I got some great shots and film of the trek from just west of Easton’s Beach (AKA “First Beach”) to just east of Bailey’s Beach (AKA “Reject’s Beach”). I ended up making a loop back through the neighborhoods for time and for something different on the way back…surprisingly the Cliff Walk one-way had about 400’ of elevation gain in its 3.5 miles, not bad for RI near the coast! The whole loop was about 7 miles and was gorgeous, there’s also stakes with QR codes linking to descriptions of each location along the walk. I had it mostly to myself on the final third as well.

A great day was had, and the rain stopped just as I pulled into parking along Memorial Boulevard. By the end the sun poked out and winds kicked up…even had to weigh down my tripod with my pack to keep it from blowing over.

Rhode Island may be small, but its coast is extensive and beautiful!
