IGCSE Physics [Syllabus 1.5] Forces (part 1)

Описание к видео IGCSE Physics [Syllabus 1.5] Forces (part 1)

Hi guys,

In this video we learn about the effect of forces on a spring. The key ideas here are that the downwards force causes the spring to extend, and the more force you add the greater the extension.

Initially the force is proportional to the extension, so for every unit of force the extension will increase evenly. Here you can apply the Hooke's law for calculations (F=kx).

But eventually the proportionality is lost after the limit of proportionality. The spring is undergoing a lot of stress here. But if you unload the weights then the spring will return to its original shape without any damage.

However if you apply too much force past the elastic limit, that's when the spring is completely damaged.
