It’s a mystery, isn’t it?
One person - Three in One.
God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit.
They’re different from each other,
but all fully and equally God,
sharing the same divine nature.
The Father creates and sends.
The Son is sent and becomes human.
The Spirit comes from both to guide and help.
They’re not parts of God -
each one is fully God.
None of them were created; they’ve always existed.
They’re distinct, yet completely united.
Confused? Me too!
It really is a mystery.
We try to make sense of it -
a triangle: three sides, one shape.
Or water: ice, liquid, steam.
Same stuff, different forms.
But let’s be honest—
it’s like trying to nail jelly to a wall.
Maybe it’s okay to just sit with the mystery.
I probably won’t ever fully get it.
And I know the word Trinity isn’t in the Bible,
not exactly.
Even that well-known verse in John’s first letter,
chapter five,
about the three in heaven -
Father, Word, Holy Spirit -
doesn’t appear in the oldest versions.
It was likely added later.
The idea of the Trinity really started taking shape
in the second century,
as Christians wrestled with who Jesus was
and how he related to God—
drawing from Scripture, teaching,
and real experience.
So maybe I’ll focus on what I can grasp about the Trinity:
relationships.
Because God’s very nature is relationship -
The God who lives in love,
creates community,
gives generously.
And God invites us to do the same:
Live in harmony.
Value difference.
Love deeply.
