On August 5, the last episode of the second season of “House of the Dragon” was released. Chronologically, the events of this series precede the events of Game of Thrones. “House of the Dragon” tells about the civil war, which was called ‘Dance of Dragons’. Especially for you, I have prepared the top 5 dragons who took part in the “dance”. To choose the best ones, I based on three criteria: how big this dragon is, how old it is and how many battles it participated in.
“House of the Dragon” tells the story of events on the fictional continent of Westeros, taking place about 200 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’ and 100 years after the unification of the Seven Kingdoms thanks to the Targaryen conquests.
The plot centers on the Dance of Dragons, a civil war (129-131 from Aegon's Conquest, caused by a power struggle between two branches of House Targaryen. “The Dance” began after the death of King Viserys I, when his eldest daughter Princess Reyenira, supported by the ‘Black’ party, and his son from his second marriage Prince Aegon Targaryen, supported by the ‘Green’ party, simultaneously declared their rights to the Iron Throne. The historical prototype for this conflict was the war for the English throne between King Henry I's nephew Stephen and Henry's daughter Matilda (1135-1154).
The literary basis of the script was George R. R. Martin's book “Flame and Blood”. It is written in the genre of historical chronicle, authored by a fictional Westerosi historian, and contains potentially speculative or distorted reports, making the narrator unreliable from the reader's point of view. In an effort to make the story more understandable to viewers, the show's writers decided to show the events of the book in chronological order as an objective history of the world.
When we initially discussed the concept of the series, different approaches were considered. We could try a variant of “Rashomon”, i.e. show several versions of one event at once. It was possible to introduce a narrator, for example Archmaester Gildane, who would, like Claudius in my favorite old series “I, Claudius”, appear in each episode and explain on the basis of which sources he describes what happened, and point out contradictions between these sources. Unfortunately, no one likes the Claudius approach now.

To tie the plot of the new series to Game of Thrones, the writers have added a storyline of Aegon the Conqueror's prophecy of a White Walker invasion. This idea, which dates back to George R. R. Martin, was seriously reworked and developed by the series creators.
