India welcomed its 50th Chief Justice of India on Wednesday as Justice Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud was sworn in by the President of India Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

It was also a historic moment as this made Justice DY Chandrachud and his father, former CJI YV Chandrachud, the only father-son duo to have reached the position of the CJI.

CJI Chandrachud has been a judge of the top court for the past six years, and through his judgments made observations on crucial issues of fundamental rights, privacy, gender sensitization, and rights of women and LGBTQ+, amongst others.

CJI Chandrachud has often been called a liberal and progressive judge, someone who always speaks his mind both inside and outside the courtroom.
