Feed is an important aspect in pigeon keeping. Feed should be well balanced and provide complete nutrition to pigeon. importance of feed cannot be over looked in pigeon keeping. feed provide the food and nutrition to the pigeons. feed should be complete and provide the required carbohydrate, Protein and fats to the pigeon to replenish the energy required by them, protein to support the growth and feather development and fats for its metabolic functions. in pigeon to balance it, cereal form the base and should be bulk of feed around 70-75% which can be fulfilled from grains like Jowar (Sorghum), Wheat, Bajra/Pearl Millet, Maize, Rice etc. second important component of food is Proteins which can be supplied from pulses like, different peas and beans which can be 24% part of total feed. fat requirement should be restricted to 1% which can be supplied through safflower, linseed or mustard. but use of mustard should be avoided as during molting it causes feather deformities.
