The Catlins was the first daily soap opera produced for cable television. Airing on WTBS from April 4, 1983 to May 24, 1985, this rather short-lived soap was headed by matriarch Catherine Catlin (Mary Santracroce) and her son T.J. (J. Don Ferguson), part of a powerful family and also featured the Quinns, where long before the series began, a Quinn murdered a Catlin, which nobody had ever forgotten about. Produced and set in Atlanta well before the tax credit boom of the early 21st century, the soap failed to attract a significant audience despite its late morning timeslot that would compete against the game shows, talk shows, and sitcom reruns on the Big Three.
