Welcomed By Locals Where Foreigners Don't Go In The Karakoram Mountains 🇵🇰

My 6 day trek to and from Moses Peak was my greatest adventure in Pakistan. The Karakoram backcountry in the Ghanche District of Gilgit-Baltistan is rarely seen by foreigners and locals alike, so I was really excited to not only see the mountains but to meet the people who inhabited the area as well. I was nervous when passing through the Bara Bala area to officially start my trek, but was greeted with confused laughter and smiling faces. After leaving the main village, I began passing people coming down from higher elevations with supplies like wood and specific plants. I often found myself wishing I could communicate with them so I could gain a greater insight into their livelihood. Nonetheless, I was just happy to be in their presence and watch them go about their daily lives. The day ended at a Shepard's hut where a rather warm evening kept me from getting my best rest. I woke up eager to go deeper into the wilderness, wondering where I would drop my pack for the night and set up camp yet again. Stayed tuned for Part 2 as the trek to Moses Peak only gets more exciting from here. 🇵🇰
