On June 1, 1921, the self-sustaining African American community of Greenwood in Tulsa, Oklahoma was bombed and burned to the ground after a racially motivated attack. The Tulsa Massacre devastated the wealthiest black economy at the time which was comprised of 600 black-owned business across 36 blocks of prime real estate.
