I. What is Gynecomastia?
The word “gyneco” means female and “mastia” means breast. So when breast of a male become big and looks like female breast, the condition is called Gynecomastia or Man Boob or Male Breast Enlargement.

II. What are the causes for gynecomastia?
Hormone: It is postulated that imbalance and hyper sensitivity to sex hormones (Testosterone, Estrogen and Progesterone) plays an important role in gynecomastia. Obesity: As fat deposits all over body in obesity, it is also deposited in chest too thus gynecomastia is almost always present with obese people.

III. What are the grades of gynecomastia?
Depending upon the enlargement of breast and looseness of the skin gynecomastia are classified into following categories: Grade 1: Mild enlargement, no skin excess Grade 2: Moderate enlargement Grade 3: Severe enlargement, with skin excess. Grade 4 : typical Female Breast with loose hanging breast.

IV. Does gym help to reduce this rather than doing this surgery?
Gym, exercise, dieting can reduce body fat from abdomen, but it is not very effective to reduce chest fat.

V. So what is the definitive treatment of Gynecomastia?
Liposuction of fat and removal of the gland is the definitive treatment for gynecomastia.

VI. How much time I have to stay in hospital?
Gynecomastia is a day care procedure and patient usually stays 8-10 hour in the hospital. Rarely, overnight admission may be required.

VII. Is the procedure painful?
As the surgery is done under general anesthesia, so patient does not feel any pain during surgery. Pain at home: Pain during recovery period is minimal and managed by oral tablets.

VIII. Surgery is done under GA or LA?
For Small gynecomastia is done under Local Anesthesia, and for big gynecomastia, it is done under General Anesthesia.

IX. When I can go to office?
Bed rest is required for 2 days; can go to office after 3 days; take oral medicine for 7 days; and can start gym after 6 weeks .

X. For how many months compression garment has to be worn?
To get good result, compression garment has to be worn for at least 12 weeks (3 months).

XI. What is the total cost of gynecomastia?
