Did you know that over half of medicare beneficiaries are enrolled in a MA plan? This is for several reasons:

-Medicare Advantage Plan often offer additional benefits not included with Original Medicare such as dental, vision, hearing and prescription drug
-Because of these benefits Medicare plans seem to be less expensive than Original Medicare plus supplemental coverage for dental, vision, hearing and prescription drug. For many plans, you simply continue to pay for Part B with no additional premium. There are some major tradeoffs though-m more on this later
-Brokers get paid more to recommend some Medicare Advantage vs. others.

That being said, a good broker will still point you towards the right plan for your needs.
And please make sure to like and subscribe.

In the past some Medicare Advantage plans would pay better rates to brokers than others. So, some unscrupulous professionals might guide you towards a lesser plan because it would pay them more.
There will now be a fixed amount that agents and brokers can be paid regardless of which plan their client chooses.

That being said, brokers and agents will usually still make more recommending Medicare Advantage over a Medigap Plan.

Other good changes coming are restrictions on aggressive cold calling and simplifying the appeals process for those who are denied access to skilled nursing facilities.

Now for the bad. But honestly, it may not be bad and it may not even come to fruition.

Although Medicare Advantage plans have cornered a significant corner of the market, rising healthcare costs and decreasing margins may lead these plans to cut back in certain areas.
MA plans must offer at least the same benefits as Original Medicare. However to entice beneficiaries, they very often offer additional benefits. Additionally, many plans offer these benefits at no extra charge.

Although many plans claim to be free that’s not exactly true. At the very least, you’d still need ot continue to pay for Part B. But when you compare the extra benefits at no extra cost, it seems like a no brainer.

But there are downside. MA plans operate on networks.

Regardless of whether you pick and HMO or PPO, these are managed care plans which means even if your doctor approves a certain treatment or service, your carrier must approve it as well. This can lead to delays, frustrations, and possibly even denials of medically necessary services.
But getting back to the latest possible bad news, there are concerns that these new changes and minimized margins may cause MA plans to look for ways to cut corners. This may result in the minimized fringe benefits that are so attractive and helpful to many beneficiaries.
