Russian Vowels tend to sound more open, than in English, though less open, than, say, in Spanish. So don’t be afraid to open your mouth a little wider when you pronounce them.
Note that your lips should remain in the same position for the both vowels of the same pair.

👇 10 Russian Vowels:

А - Я
О - Ё
У - Ю
Э - Е
Ы - И

The vowels Я, Ё, Ю, Е have the Й sound in them, only it disappears when they’re following a consonant.

The vowels of the left column don’t affect the consonant they’re following in any way. And the vowels of the right column make the consonants they’re following soft. Just like the Soft Sign (Ь).
