Edward syndrome, also known as Trisomy 18, is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of an extra chromosome 18. This condition is named after John H. Edwards, who first described it in 1960. Trisomy 18 occurs when there are three copies of chromosome 18 in each cell of the body, instead of the usual two.
