Lecture recording from a graduate class in condensed matter physics at Ohio State. This lecture gives examples of "semiquantitative derivation": how to arrive at analytical results quickly, as long as you don't care about numerical factors like 2 and pi. After deriving classic results for the harmonic and quartic oscillators, the majority of this lecture is spent deriving the speed of water waves.
