Описание к видео Marx Toys "Moon Base" Special in Plastic Figure & Playset Collector Magazine #34, Feb. 1995

A very quick look from a novice with an art background's viewpoint on the coverage of Marx's masterful "Operation Moon Base" in Plastic Figure & Playset Magazine No.34 from February 1995. As well as a detailed study of it's subsequent re-releases as the simplified "Moon Base" (1962, same year) and even more simplified "Project Apollo Moon Landing" (1968) sets. Would grade the publication an 8/10 in its exhaustive description of all three playsets + their contents. Playset Magazine #84 has that base covered as well, with a more lyrical approach utilizing the narrative running through its text about a young lad & his father putting the set together on Xmas Morning 1962. PFPC relates pretty much the same information albeit in a dryer format with B/W photos which have the visual texture of Xerox copies. PMs had a rich digital color photo spread, though if you already know what the stuff looks like it's neither here nor there, and photo studies of complete "Moon Base" sets aren't difficult to come by online. The point in having the publication is to have it, if you get what I mean, with the statistical data + thoroughly reproduced assembly instructions being the highlight of both issues.

My interest in playset collecting is pretty much confined to the Space Toy idiom and OMB my favorite iteration. Had been hoping for insights into the design history of the set -- How were the vehicles designed, and by whom? What was inspiring them? Why were those particular colors chosen for the castings? Who was responsible for the glorious box artworks? Who were the sculptors who crafted the incredible figures, and why only two Moon Suits? And how was the glorious centralized Moon Mountain made??

Are there repositories for such information out there? Or was that side of Marx' history lost in the financial collapse of the company after it was sold off to Quaker Oats? There's a book to write here and I would enjoy any information viewers may have to link up in comments or email (space.trucks1138 at gmail.com). My final verdict on the publications is that and any Marx Space Toy enthusiast would do well by obtaining both issues shown which were easy enough for me to find. Playset Magazine still in print with both current subscriptions and back issues available via their website at

PPFC back issues are all over the vendor platforms anyone reading this is already familiar with. For those interested in which sets PFPC covered in which issues to narrow down the ones pick up for your own research, check the index page at the "Marx Wild West" website here:
