Guido Cantelli was associated with the music of Debussy to such a degree that he included his music in his concert programs as much as he could. The present recording of "La Mer" is certainly distinctive in its own right. Made with the Philharmonia by British EMI, it represents all the things we associate with that great orchestra and the label that made so many recordings with it. Seventy years later one can only observe that the present recording is a rare gem from that period. This is certainly a candidate for the best "La Mer" on record.

This is not a stereo recording, but when microphones were used this skillfully the Full Fidelity result is every bit as good as stereo. The original engineer was Douglas Larter, who recorded many of the greatest sounding recordings from Kingsway Hall.
