7 facts about Rebecca. Rebecca was born in Haran, Mesopotamia, and she was the daughter of Bethuel, Abraham's nephew. God chose Rebecca to be the wife of Isaac, Abraham's son, when she was drawing water at a well. Therefore, Isaac and Rebecca were relatives. Rebecca was renowned for her beauty and generosity. In fact, she was so beautiful that when Isaac journeyed in the land of the Philistines, he lied by introducing Rebecca as his sister, fearing that the men of that place might kill him to possess her.

For twenty years, Rebecca was barren. However, she eventually bore twin sons, Esau and Jacob, who became significant figures in biblical history. The Bible recounts that Rebecca favored Jacob, her younger son, and aided him in securing Isaac's blessing in place of Esau. To accomplish this, Rebecca deceived Isaac by pretending that Jacob was Esau, so that he could receive the patriarchal blessing. This subsequently led to rivalry between the brothers. After sending Jacob away to preserve his life from Esau's wrath, Rebecca never saw her favored son again before her death.
