Before scheduling a meeting, ask three things:

1) Do WE actually need to meet? Are WE coming together to solve a problem? Or is the meeting topic something that could be handled in an email or a quick phone call between a couple of people?

2) Is the intended outcome clear? If so, is it in the meeting invite? Give attendees enough information to allow them to determine if the meeting is the best use of their time. Then, start every meeting by saying, "WE are here to accomplish..." or "A successful meeting ends with us landing on..."

3) Are WE using everyone’s time wisely? What's the fascination with one hour meetings? Could it be 45? Could it be 15? BTW, when WE"ve reached the outcome identified in #2, the meeting is over - Let the team get back to doing what they need to do.
