In this video clip from 1995-1996, Harry Maralngurra shows the Dreaming site of Kuyingawarra within the Ngalngbali clan estate of Kudjekbinj. In Kunwinjku culture, this Dreaming Site is an “increase site” for Manyawko flowers (flowers of the Eucalyptus tectifica tree) and, therefore, also an increase site for flying foxes and sugar bag (wild honey). The increase of Manyawko flowers is accomplished by the appropriate person (in this case Harry) “chucking” a specific yellow ochre from the creek bank in different directions into the water while calling out the names of different areas, asking that the Manyawko flowers spread out to each of these. Manyawko are a major food for sugar bag bees and flying foxes; therefore, if the flowers are prolific then the “sugar bag bees” will make more honey and flying foxes will be more plentiful and fatter for “better tucker.”
