I am a sheep farmer in Wicklow in Ireland. Some of my dry sheep (yearlings) got mixed with the older in-lamb ewes. So, rather than bring the whole flock back to the handling facility ( as it would cause stress and confusion to the ewes and could mix up the lambs) I decided to shed the yearlings out of the ewes as I was moving down the field on my way to the sheep handling unit.
I use the dogs to separate off the ewes and lambs and the ewes that are still to lamb. I just keep the dry yearlings in the bunch.
I bring the yearlings to the pen for marking and in a week or 2 they will go to the mountain for the summer
